Agenda for 10 Sep 2020 Platform Spec meeting

Al Stone

Here's the proposed agenda for the upcoming meeting of the Platform
Spec Working Group. If there's something you'd like to add, just
let me know now or during the meeting.

Please note, too, that I'm starting up the wiki in [2], by adding
in a copy of this agenda. Please feel free to add notes to that
agenda, especially if I forget to capture something during the
meeting. I plan to make a lot of use of github...

And many thanks to Atish for all the help needed to get me this
far :).

please make sure governance includes the topics found in slide 2 of the org chart slides at:

you don't have to do it all at once and you can spawn TGs to cover them now or in the future.

It's important that it is clear and explicit where ownership lies.

While it may be covered by the higher level items listed in the charter, I suggest it would be great to have them added explicitly in the charter or in another document with a referral to that document in the charter.

You have to be willing to join Zoom calls to then discuss if Zoom calls
are ok?

Numerous companies have banned employees using Zoom. Not to mention the
dishonest claims they have made and the poor privacy controls. On top
of all that you have to install an app just to use it.

Using Zoom locks a lot of people out of discussions.

It's the mechanism we have at the moment.

Numerous companies have banned employees using Zoom. Not to mention the
dishonest claims they have made and the poor privacy controls. On top

Yes, understood. For good or ill, this is what the foundation makes
available up front so it was the tool at hand.

Using Zoom locks a lot of people out of discussions.
What would be preferred? I have no incentive to stay with Zoom. On
any given day, I personally end up using one of maybe half a dozen
different solutions to be able to get work done. Those that were
able to attend expressed no strong preference.

My company does have a BlueJeans account and I would gladly set that
up for our use, if that would work better.

And I'm always open to suggestions.

What do people think about Google Meet?  (We use that internally and with external parties.)

[snip...]

Per the discussion this morning, the wiki has been updated with my
notes from today's meeting [0]. Please edit or comment if I missed
something or got something wrong, or if you just have additional
notes.

I have also added the draft charter and a TODO list to the wiki, as
we discussed. The only other action I recall is that I need to send
out a MR for the work I've started in writing portions of the spec
-- it's mostly just an outline still -- so that we can start looking
at something a bit more concrete.

I did make one mistake: I had intended to record the discussion and
attach it to the wiki but forgot to push the "record" button. My
apologies.

The next meeting is scheduled for 24 Sep 2020. A tentative agenda
is also on the wiki [1]; again, please feel free to add to it.

I understand. I just wanted to point out that it's something to keep in
mind.

I don't regulary attend these meetings, so I don't want to complain too
much. I just wanted to point out that others are locked out from
joining with Zoom. Either because of their company or because they
personally don't feel comfortable.

Using Zoom locks a lot of people out of discussions.

To me that sounds much better!

If that isn't an option I'm sure we could set up a WebEx instead.

Really anything else that works with a standard web browser (not just
one by an ad company) is fine.
